Chair Yoga and Sound Therapy

On 22 August 2026, EMAGE CIC delivered an additional Chair Yoga and Sound Therapy session as part of the NHS North East London ICB-funded Living Well, Ageing Well programme. The session was organised in response to participants’ interest in having more activities focused on movement, relaxation and wellbeing.

The session was delivered by trained yoga teacher Shahana Yasmin and attended by 17 participants. Chair yoga provided an accessible way for people of different ages and mobility levels to participate safely. Participants learned simple seated movements, stretching and breathing exercises that they could continue practising at home. The session demonstrated that physical activity does not always need to be strenuous—even small, regular movements can support mobility, relaxation and wellbeing as we age.

Participants also experienced sound therapy, which was a new concept for many of them. The combination of gentle movement, breathing and therapeutic sounds created a calm and relaxing environment. Feedback was extremely positive, with participants describing feeling deeply relaxed; one participant said they felt “over the moon,” while another described the experience as feeling “like being in paradise.”

The session reinforced an important message of the Living Well, Ageing Well programme: small and achievable changes in everyday life can support healthier and more positive ageing. It also highlighted the value of providing inclusive activities that can be adapted for people with lower mobility and different physical abilities.

The strong response to this additional session will help EMAGE CIC shape future Living Well, Ageing Well activities around what participants tell us they enjoy, value and want to continue.

Living well today can help us age well tomorrow.
